Sermones Romani: Authentic Ancient Conversations (Intermediate)

$200.00

Instructor:

Michael “Meletus” Sweet

Description:

What did the Romans sound like when they spoke to one another? How can we follow them to better our everyday speech in Latin?

In each session of this course, we’ll read a variety of short selections from Latin literature from the earliest centuries of Latin literature (e.g, Plautus, and Terence) through the Classical Period (e.g, Cicero, etc.) all the way through the late Western Roman Empire (e.g, The Latin Vulgate, Augustine) including examples of informal Latin from Papyrus, Epigraphic and other sources. Then, we’ll engage in short exercises such as transformation drills, picture descriptions, and creative storytelling to help flex our Latin-speaking mental muscles.

Sessions take place via Zoom and are capped at 5 participants to ensure a personalized learning environment.
