$200.00

Instructor:

Michael “Meletus” Sweet

Description:

Have you wanted to get your feet wet in Post-Classical and/or Medieval Latin but didn't know where to start? In this course, we'll read selections of post-Classical Latin from A.W. Godfrey's Medieval Mosaic (works from circa 200 C.E to 1400 C.E) available from Bolchazy-Carduchi. Although the primary language of the course when we will be reading the texts together in the course will be Latin, English will be the language of instruction for textual introductions, etc. so that this course can serve as a helpful introduction to Medieval Latin style and variety for a wide audience.

Authors/Works included in the selections are Minucius Felix (Octavius), Sulpicius Severus (Vita Sancti Martini), The Venerable Bede, Cuthbert, Pope Gregory the Great, Walafridhus Strabo, and many others.

If there is sufficient interest, a continuation of the course may be offered in future semesters.

Sessions will take place via Zoom and are capped at 6 participants to ensure a personalized learning environment.
