Our Mission

Latinitas animi causa means something like “Latin for fun.” Animi causa can be placed in opposition to negotii causa (for the sake of work/ business). Therefore, to do something animi causa is to do it not for the sake of business but to do it for ourselves, and so, for fun.

At LAC, our mission is to make Latin and ancient Greek accessible and enjoyable to learners of all ages and backgrounds. These areas of study have long been seen as only for the ‘elite’ (sc. * eye-roll *). Is learning a language hard work? Yes. Are you literally using your language skills right now to read this? Also yes! Our brains are wired for communication. That is why our instructors follow Second Language Acquisition (SLA) research backed by neuroscientific principles to teach ancient Greek and Latin through authentic communication in our online classes.

  • Our focus is teaching people how to speak Latin and ancient Greek. We have courses that are designed to boost speaking ability as well as courses in which we teach Latin or ancient Greek texts in the target language. We also often have courses in English about aspects of the ancient world, such as classical rhetoric, Socratean philosophy, and reading ancient manuscripts!
